Fargo was a middleweight robot built by a student team from John Hersey High School, Illinois, which competed at two BattleBots IQ events in 2005 and 2007, as well as the 2009 High School Championship.
It was a large, two-wheel drive box-shaped robot armed with a front-mounted spinning drum. The weapon incorporated a twin-belt drive system and was described by the team as a 'Front Grinder'.[1] The robot was completely rebuilt after the 2005 event.
After receiving a bye in the first round of the Winner's Bracket, Fargo endured a difficult start to its High School Championship run, losing its initial battle to ODDBOTT 3.75 by knockout. From there, it would redeem itself in the Loser's Bracket with three victories over Mizbayakh, Das Bot and Slingshot respectively, before being eliminated by PanDEMONium on a judges' decision. Fargo thus finished the High School Championship with a 3-2 record.[2][3]

High School Championship 2009[] |
Fargo vs. ODDBOTT 3.75 After receiving a bye from the first round of the main Winner's Bracket, Fargo's first scheduled fight in the High School Championship was against the ramming wedge of ODDBOT 3.75. Though very little information on this and the robot's other battles is available, a photograph from the event suggests that it was at one point pushed towards the Screws behind the red square by ODDBOTT 3.75, the Bay Path machine taking advantage of its high ground clearance. Official BattleBots records confirm that Fargo would eventually lose the match by knockout after one minute and 52 seconds.[2][3] |
Fargo vs. Mizbayakh Forced to fight on in the Loser's Bracket, Fargo next faced Mizbayakh in the hope of staying in the competition. Here, its fortunes began to improve, with BattleBots records stating that it defeated the Team JCHS machine by knockout after two minutes and 17 seconds.[2][3] |
Fargo vs. Das Bot Next to fight Fargo were Elk Grove High School and their entry Das Bot. Again, Fargo maintained its upturn in form, winning by knockout after one minute and 41 seconds.[2][3] |
Fargo vs. Slingshot In its third Loser's Bracket match, Fargo would be drawn against Slingshot, a pneumatic flipper entered by Vintage High Robotics. BattleBots records confirm that both robots lasted the full three minutes, with Fargo winning the Judges' decision in its longest battle up to this point in the competition.[2][3] |
Fargo vs. PanDEMONium With three consecutive wins to its name, Fargo next faced PanDEMONium, a full-body spinner entered by a team from Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart. As in its previous match, it survived to the full three minutes, but lost to PanDEMONium on the subsequent Judges' decision. Fargo was eliminated from the High School Championship as a result, finishing the event with a 3-2 fight record.[2][3] |
