Emily was a heavyweight robot built by Team Moon which competed in the 2009 BattleBots Pro Championship.

It was an invertible, two-wheeled machine with a diamond-shaped body and a similar red, black and gray color scheme to the team's fellow entry Eugene. Emily was armed with a large horizontal bar spinner which had a larger reach than the equivalent weapon on Tombstone. However, while highly damaging, the blade's narrower width and slower spin-up time meant that it could not be used to attack as quickly as the Hardcore Robotics machine. The entire robot also had a tendency to rock back and forth due to its center wheel placement and high ground clearance, despite the presence of rubber stops on the rear of its top and base panels.

In the Pro Championship, Emily reached further in the Winner's Bracket than its drum spinner counterpart, but accumulated fewer victories through receiving a bye and benefiting from Warrior's forfeit. Upon being defeated by Comedy Central-era veteran Surgeon General, it would pick up one knockout win against Hugs & Kisses in the Loser's Bracket, before being eliminated on a Judges' decision by Megabyte.[2][3]

Prior to its BattleBots appearance, a 120lb wedge-shaped version of Emily competed at the 2008 RoboGames and ComBots Texas Cup events, achieving a combined 4-3 match record according to BotRank.com listings.[4] This incarnation was also documented to compete in the 340lb divisions as a two-part multibot entry, paired up with Team Moon's drum spinner Gerald.[5][6]

The heavyweight Emily did not compete at any other events following the 2009 Pro Championship, instead being renamed Vera for a one-off return at RoboGames 2011. Here, it was eliminated at an early stage of the 220lb tournament after losing both of its matches to Gruff and Touro Maximus respectively.[7] Vera's appearance - including its match with Touro Maximus - was highlighted in the Science Channel special Killer Robots: RoboGames 2011.

Emily vs. Warrior

Emily's 2009 Pro Championship campaign began with an automatic bye from the first round of the Winner's Bracket, enabling it to be drawn against Warrior in the second. However, the Team Whyachi machine forfeited according to official BattleBots records, allowing Emily to progress by default.[2][3]

Emily vs. Surgeon General

Emily's first match thus took place in the third round, where it faced a rival horizontal spinner in the form of Comedy Central veteran Surgeon General. Official BattleBots records indicate that the match lasted only 36 seconds, with Emily listed as having lost on a Judges' decision.[2][3] However, it reportedly damaged Surgeon General's armor and weapon in the process, to the extent that the latter was left without a functioning spinner for its very next match against Brutality.Citation?

Emily vs. Hugs & Kisses (Loser's Bracket)

Now relegated to the Loser's Bracket, Emily fought Hugs & Kisses for a chance to maintain its place in the competition. In footage officially released by Autodesk Inventor,[8] it initially remained stationary in the blue square so that it could get its bar spinner up to speed. Emily shot forwards to meet a reversing Hugs & Kisses in the center of the BattleBox, proceeding to tear into the latter's rear-left corner. Successive blows damaged Hugs & Kisses' defensive scoop and ripped one of its discs off, giving Emily an advantage as it sped towards the red square. Emily charged blade-first into Hugs & Kisses once more, causing further damage, before pushing and spinning the severed disk into the screws. Turning round, it tore the other disk completely off Hugs & Kisses, sending parts of the weapon assembly flying. Hugs & Kisses was incapacitated following this attack; after a few moments, Emily ripped more of its armor and internals out with another succession of hits. Emily thus won the match in a destructive 44-second knockout.[2][3]

Emily vs. Megabyte (Loser's Bracket)

Emily would next face Robotic Death Company and their shell spinner Megabyte, a machine which had recently eliminated Team Moon's other entry Eugene in the same bracket. Official match records indicate that both competitors lasted the full three minutes, though Megabyte would win the subsequent Judges' decision. Emily thus followed Eugene in being eliminated from the 2009 Pro Championship, finishing the competition with a 1-2 match record.[2][3]
