"You can't make robots survive everybody. There will never be one perfect design." - Donald Hutson on Diesector.
Diesector was a superheavyweight robot built by Donald Hutson and his team Mutant Robots for the original Comedy Central run of BattleBots.
It was a large, box-shaped robot with an array of weaponry at the front, back and sides of the robot. Diesector featured a set of custom-built hydraulic lifting and clamping jaws, a rear wedge which was interchangeable with a plow, and a pair of 360 degree hammers with interchangeable heads. Donald Hutson designed it so that each of its weapons would work inverted, and would protect it from every angle. Diesector was originally going to feature hydraulic jaws of life, but they were too slow, so Hutson built his own. Despite its potent weaponry, however, Diesector lost in its debut battle to Grendel.
For Season 2.0, Diesector sported a new set of jaws and modified hammers. These upgrades proved effective as Diesector advanced through the competition, beating Atomic Wedgie on a judges' decision to win the superheavyweight division.
Diesector was rebuilt after its championship win. Donald Hutson built a brand new chassis constructed from 4310 alloy steel, and protected with plates of titanium armor. It had also been equipped with much larger hammers to increase their effectiveness. Although it did not win either of the next two superheavyweight titles, Mutant Robotics followed up their success with two consecutive semi-final finishes in Seasons 3.0 and 4.0, making itself one of the most popular and well-recognized superheavyweights in the show.
Returning for Season 5.0, Diesector had brand new jaws made from the same 4130 alloy steel as its chassis, with aluminum tips. It also sported new "battle mallet" hammers. Diesector again found success in the competition, going undefeated before taking out Vladiator to win the superheavyweight championship for a second and final time.
Diesector would not return in any future BattleBots events, but Donald Hutson finished runner-up in the 2009 Pro Championship with Root Canal, a heavyweight version of the team's middleweight entry into Comedy Central BattleBots. He returned for the 2015 season on ABC with Lock-Jaw, and has competed every competition since.

Diesector vs. Grendel ![]() Diesector gets pierced from the behind by Grendel. Donald Hutson first brought Diesector to the first televised BattleBots competition in San Francisco, California. There it first entered the BattleBox against Grendel. At the start of the match, Diesector had the advantage, zooming around Grendel, outmaneuvering and outspeeding its spring-loaded hammer. However, Diesector drove into the spikestrip and stopped moving as the battery wires had melted, causing the electronics to short out. One of Diesector's hammers kept flailing away, but there was no movement from the wheels. Grendel finally managed to get a direct blow on Diesector with its hammer, piercing the shell. Another strike from the hammer did not cause as much damage, but Diesector had long since been immobilized and was counted out. |
Superheavyweight Royal Rumble Diesector wasn't finished, however, as it participated the superheavyweight royal rumble at the end of the tournament. It first went at Ginsu, then gets attacked by Gray Matter. It then attacks Rhino. Next it was chasing Minion, then goes for Odin. Minion rams it into the wall. It then seems to be having a problem with its mobility as it stayed near the wall (much like in its fight with Grendel), although its weapons were still operational as it lifted itself a bit on its jaws and was swinging its hammers. Minion however pushed Odin right into Diesector's jaws and Diesector happily began pounding Odin with its hammers until Odin escaped. For the rest of the fight it was left alone and in the end Minion won. |

Season 3.0[] |
Diesector vs. Scrap Daddy Turbulence ![]() Diesector using its hammers on Scrap Daddy Turbulence. Diesector's first fight of Season 3.0 was against Scrap Daddy's Turbulence, which it won via knockout, using its upgraded hammers to great effect in the bout. |
Diesector vs. Dawn of Destruction ![]() Diesector lifts Dawn of Destruction onto its side. |
Diesector vs. Rammstein At the start of the fight, the two machines rammed each other, with Diesector hitting Rammstein with its hammers a few times. Rammstein then pushed Diesector, taking several hammer blows in the process. Rammstein and Diesector slammed into each other head-on once again, this time with Rammstein driving up its opponent's wedge. Diesector then pushed Rammstein while using its hammers, then Rammstein managed to escape. However, it drove into a pulverizer and was then trapped there by Diesector. Rammstein was attacked by multiple hammer blows from the pulverizer and Diesector. Donald Hutson's machine clamped Rammstein and pulled it away from the pulverizers before holding it over a set of killsaws, which sliced into one of Rammstein's wheels. Diesector let go of its opponent, who sat motionless on the Battlebox floor, allowing Diesector to turn it over with its jaws. Rammstein was declared immobile, and Diesector went through to the semi finals. |
Diesector vs. Vladiator ![]() Diesector on top of Vladiator. |
Superheavyweight Royal Rumble Diesector was not finished yet however, as it was one of fifteen robots to enter the royal superheavyweight rumble. Diesector started carrying The Judge around for awhile until The Judge came back striking its hammer in between Diesector. It then got carried to the wall by Vladiator. Then Diesactor scoops up The Judge along with Electric Lunch but backed off. Then Vladiator started attacking Diesector again. After this Diesector went for The Judge again, getting its lower mandibles caught in judges' hole in The judges' left-side, but they managed to separate. Finally, it chased Toro and eventually pinned it by a pulverizer, where Diesector began pounding away with its own hammers. In the end, Diesector was one of four robots still moving in the end, but it lost overall to Toro. |
Season 4.0[] |
Diesector vs. The Probe Diesector returned once again for Season 4.0, largely unchanged from the previous season. Its first fight was an untelevised battle against The Probe. Diesector won the fight by a dominant 43-2 judges' decision and advanced to the last sixteen. |
Diesector vs. Ronin ![]() Diesector gets underneath Ronin. |
Diesector vs. Techno Destructo ![]() Diesector shortly after being flipped over by Techno Destructo. Techno Destructo's flip on Diesector. Diesector pushes Techno Destructo into the pulverizer. |

Diesector vs. Dreadnought ![]() Diesector wrestles with Dreadnought. |
Diesector vs. Hammertime Hammertime would fight Diesector next in the Season 5.0 quarter-finals. Team Mutant Robots was genuinely scared about fighting Hammertime due to the massive force of the hammer. In the fight, the two robots charged out of their squares, Diesector getting around to the side and getting underneath. Hammertime fired the hammer but missed. Diesector got underneath Hammertime and flipped Hammertime onto its side, then grabbed Hammertime so it could not self-right. Diesector began pummeling Hammertime with hits from its hammers and then pushed Hammertime near the pulverizer. Hammertime, still unable to self-right, was counted out. |
Diesector vs. New Cruelty ![]() Diesector performs its victory dance after the fight against New Cruelty. |
Diesector vs. Vladiator This match was very dramatic, with both superheavyweights sending each other flying into the walls and over themselves. Diesector also used its hammers to pound the top armor of Vladiator while surviving two flips from the lifting panel of Gage Cauchois' machine. The match was extremely close with neither robot showing a clear edge. However, one of Vladiator's high-speed collisions with the wall caused a Lexan panel to come loose, crack and bend out of shape, effectively breaching the BattleBox enclosure. As a result, the battle was stopped for safety reasons after one minute and 36 seconds had elapsed, though the televised version of this fight did not make any mention of the wall breach. After a period in which they highlighted the risks of the damaged Lexan panel to the BattleBots audience, the Judges awarded a 26-19 decision to Diesector, basing their decision on the events leading up to the moment the panel came loose. This meant that Diesector won its second superheavyweight championship in its final BattleBots appearance. |
