- "Never underestimate your competitor's ability to perform in battle merely by outward appearance and size. Each competitor has its own unique fighting ability and strengths. BattleTrot represents the warrior in each and every one of us."
- — David Fay on the meaning behind BattleTrot
David Fay is an American artist who was responsible for creating the BattleTrot sculpture made during BattleBots World Championship VI. He was credited as 'first-ever Artist-in-Residence' within the show.
Comprised of parts from various 2021 season competitors, BattleTrot was designed to resemble a horse. It was built on-site by Fay throughout the duration of the World Championship tournament, utilizing parts from a total of 65 competing robots, and was officially revealed on September 5, 2021.[1][2]
BattleTrot sold for $17,101 on April 17, 2022, with proceeds going to the Grant Imahara STEAM Foundation.[3]
Outside BattleBots[]
Las Vegas resident David Fay is an assemblage artist whose work exclusively repurposes junk he finds and collects.
Notable work of Fay's includes a life-size sculpture titled 'On Second Thought', made as a memorial to honor lives lost during the Route 91 massacre in Las Vegas in October 2017.
He also produced a sculpture inspired by Auguste Rodin's 'The Thinker', but made entirely out of guns and ammunition. The piece makes use of over 600 firearms, and was made in light of controversy over US gun control.[4]
