Chronic ABCBB2015

Chronic.

Chronic was a heavyweight robot which competed in the first season of ABC's BattleBots reboot. Its main weapon was a powerful pneumatic flipper. It was built by Alan Young, Sam Cooper and Helen Cooper of Team Chronic, which is a prominent British team. Chronic was a rebuilt version of Kronic, one of the best robots on the British live circuit. However, it did not compete on the show, instead being chosen as a reserve robot.

Chronic also competed on Robot Wars over the course of Series 4-7 under the name Kronic the Wedgehog, later shortened to just Kronic. It had some reasonable success there, making one Heat Final and two Heat Semi Finals.

Chronic was rejected from Season 2 of the ABC show due to unknown factors, most likely due to it being a standard wedge shape, which the show has been trying to move away from. Chronic did however have a cameo, fighting Beta, which was used as a practice match to help build Apollo and also help upgrade Beta.

Although Chronic wouldn't apply for any further seasons, Team MAD are entering a new flipper for Season 5 called Orion. (No relation to the one-time loser from Season 3.0.)

Team MAD built a second Chronic, which competed in Series 8, 9, and 10 of Robot Wars painted white and named Apollo. It won Series 8 against Carbide, which oddly enough is also a British robot based on a robot that the same team previously used in BattleBots, Cobalt.

SwampThingvsChronic BB2015

A tailless Swamp Thing fighting Chronic.

In Chronic's only fight, it squared off against Swamp Thing in a grudge match. It lost after something happened to its drive system. This was actually the very first fight in the new arena, and was used to practice filming angles for the show.

Chronic was due to compete in a nine bot rumble at the end of the tournament, but due to time restraints in filming, the rumble never happened.
