Broadside is a robot designed by ARC Robotics which applied for BattleBots World Championship VI, who had previously attempted to compete a season prior with Jekyll & Hyde.[1]

It was originally designed to be two-wheel drive, though became four-wheel drive in a later CAD. In both designs, Broadside sports a large cannon protruding from the top of the bot. Much like Double Jeopardy, its plan of attack was to use its low profile to fire "3-5" metal slugs measuring 2.5" x 5" at its opponent, at speeds of up to 250mph.[2]

A broadside is the side of a ship which houses cannons used in naval warfare to attack and sink an enemy target.

On May 18 2021, ARC Robotics revealed a radical redesign of the initial CAD, which included the aforementioned four-wheel drive, orange tires, black motifs on the body and two claw-like forks mounted to the front. However, the comment on the team's Facebook page revealing progress on Broadside's CAD also confirmed that the team had been rejected. Later that same day, the team formally announced they had not been accepted for the 2021 BattleBots season in a separate social media post.[3]

"We're going to continue to develop this system over the next few months, with an emphasis on making it next-level. Next season, we hope!!"

In April 2022, ARC Robotics teased an updated CAD, dubbed Broadside MK2. This version sports its cannon weaponry mounted to the sides rather than the front. The cannon sits between each drive wheel, each of which is now fully armored.[4] Broadside MK2 also features an axe and large front wedge, though the latter is not pictured. Despite the progress, the team did not confirm or deny applying for World Championship VII.

Outside BattleBots[]

Outside of BattleBots, members of the team are regular competitors on the UK live scene, having competed at Robodojo and Extreme Robots events in the past. One of their robots, Big Dave 3, is a heavyweight drum spinner which intended to compete in Robot Wars prior to its cancellation.
