Black Hawk, later known as Star Hawk, was a superheavyweight robot built by Team Moon which competed in the final season of Comedy Central BattleBots. It also fought in both the 2004 NPC Charity Open and Rochester Robot Rampage event in 2005.

It was a black, box-shaped robot armed with three cutting blades on each end of a large vertical spinning triangular disk on a hydraulic arm. It did not perform well in competition, losing its first and only match in Comedy Central BattleBots to Hog Wild.

Black Hawk was eventually rebuilt into the more successful superheavyweight Star Hawk, swapping out the hydraulic arm for a more conventional vertical spinner design. Star Hawk entered the 2004 NPC Charity event in its second incarnation where it did slightly better, winning one match. The team that built Black Hawk also entered Emily and Eugene into the 2009 Pro Championship.

Outside BattleBots[]

Black Hawk competed in the North Carolina Robot Street Fight 3, where it did not perform very well, winning only one match before losing to the likes of Shovelhead and Rocky Bot-Boa. Black Hawk also entered the first annual Battle Beach tournament in 2003 as Black Widow, where it lost all four of its fights, including those against Toro and The Judge.

Outside the NPC Charity Open, Star Hawk and Star Hawk 2.0 had very little success, only winning one other match out of a combined six matches in the live circuit. Afterwards, Star Hawk went through another rebuild, with upgrades including better side armor and an addition to its arsenal of interchangeable weaponry.

This final revision, known as Star Hawk 3.0, proved to be the best performing of the three, as it mustered up a decent record of 10-9, with notable performances including its impressive showing at RoboGames 2005, where Star Hawk 3.0 managed to avenge its loss against Tombstone in the latter's final match. After losing to Psychotic Reaction in Mechwars 10 in 2007, it was retired.

Now renamed Star Hawk, Black Hawk's first fight in its new form was against Psycho Splatter. This fight started with Star Hawk getting up to full speed, and colliding with Psycho Splatter II. This allowed Psycho Splatter to get underneath Star Hawk, however Star Hawk got away, and attempted to charge at Psycho Splatter IIbut just wound up high centering itself on the wall after driving into it full speed. Psycho Splatter then freed Star Hawk, which attacked the side of its opponent with its flywheel. Star Hawk then climbed on top of the rear of Psycho Splatter II, and the two robots were locked together for a few seconds before Psycho Splatter managed to shake Star Hawk free. Star Hawk then drove at Psycho Splatter, and slapped it with the side of the robot. After this Star Hawk charged at Psycho Splatter II once more, driving up its wedge. However Psycho Splatter could not do anything as it lacked the drive power to shove Star Hawk around. Star Hawk then attacked the side of Psycho Splatter with its flywheel again, before driving around and attacking the rear. Star Hawk then drove onto Psycho Splatter's wedge, and started shoving it around the arena before taking it to the arena wall. Star Hawk then drove up Psycho Splatter's wedge again, but only succeeded in slamming into the wall full speed. Star Hawk then got to the side of Psycho Splatter once more, and shunted it into the wall, and proceeded to shove it some more as time ran out. Star Hawk won the resulting judges decision, and advanced to the next round.

Star Hawk 2.0 vs. Tombstone

Star Hawk on its last legs during its fight with Tombstone.

Here, Star Hawk faced Tombstone. For this fight, Star Hawk swapped the disk out for a vertical spinning bar, the fight started with both bots getting up to full speed, with Tombstone delivering two large hits to the front of Star Hawk. Star Hawk then got around to the rear of Tombstone, and delivered a blow with its spinning bar before Tombstone spun around and delivered a huge hit to the side of Star Hawk. Star Hawk then took yet another hit to the side, before Tombstone came in and delivered a blow to the front of Star Hawk that nearly disabled its weapon. Tombstone then attacked the side of Star Hawk again, ripping a large gash in the side before attacking the front yet again, sending pieces flying. Tombstone then attacked again, this time completely disabling Star Hawk's weapon. Tombstone then attacked the side of Star Hawk which resulted in it only being able to drive in circles. After a few more severe hits like this an absolutely mangled Star Hawk started smoking, and tapped out. This meant that Star Hawk had lost by knock out and was now in the loser's bracket.

Star Hawk 2.0 vs. OUCH!!

OUCH!! rips the side armor of Star Hawk off.

Star Hawk's first loser's bracket match was against OUCH!!. This fight started with Star Hawk attempting to box rush OUCH!! as it got up to speed, this failed as Star Hawk missed, and hit the wall instead. Star Hawk then plowed backwards into OUCH!!, doing nothing before slamming its blade into the spinning shell of OUCH!! which promptly broke one of the brackets for the spinning bar on Star Hawk. Star Hawk then slammed into OUCH!! again, and got sent spinning away before OUCH!! delivered two large hits in succession. With the first hit completely disabling Star Hawk's spinning bar, and the second one ripping the whole right side of Star Hawk's armor completely off. Star Hawk's team tapped out, meaning it had lost by knockout for a second time and was eliminated from the competition.

BattleBots Rochester R3[]

Star Hawk 3.0 vs. The Black Knight

Now competing as Star Hawk 3.0, its first battle was against The Black Knight. When the match began, Star Hawk and The Black Knight ran past each other before the two turned around and clashed. Star Hawk dealt a blow to The Black Knight's wedge with its bar at full speed, but it wasn't enough to prevent Star Hawk from riding up the wedge, which caused it to flip upside down not long after. Star Hawk was counted out, and fell into the loser's bracket.

Star Hawk 3.0 vs. Sir Punch-A-Lot

Here, it faced Sir Punch-A-Lot. When the match began, The two bots turned to face each other. When Sir Punch-A-Lot tried to bypass the spinning bar and move to the left side of Star Hawk, Star Hawk turned and took a bite out of the left side of Sir Punch-A-Lot. Sir Punch-A-Lot managed to get to the right side and deliver a punching blow with its protruding block of metal, but Star Hawk was completely unaffected thanks to its wheel-guards. In return, Star Hawk turned around and struck the front, tearing up the top armor. Sir Punch-A-Lot tried to maneuver to the side of Star Hawk again, but it wasn't fast enough, and Star Hawk dealt a massive blow to the right side of Sir Punch-A-Lot, kicking it up into the center of the arena and immobilizing it. Sir Punch-A-Lot was counted out, giving Star Hawk the win by KO.

Star Hawk 3.0 vs. Ziggy

In the next round, Star Hawk 3.0 fought Ziggy. For this match, Star Hawk 3.0 had outriggers attached to the side of the robot to avoid being flipped. Despite this, as soon as the match started Ziggy got underneath Star Hawk, and flipped it over. Ziggy then took Star Hawk to the arena side wall, and attempted to toss it out the arena. This failed, however, and Ziggy took it to the pulverizers before flipping it back over. Star Hawk then shoved Ziggy into the wall before driving onto Ziggy's wedge where it got flipped over again. This time however Ziggy did not flip Star Hawk back over, and it was counted down, and eliminated from the tournament.

Superheavyweight Rumble

Starhawkvspokesalot

Star Hawk about to strike the front of Sir Punch-A-Lot.

Star Hawk returned for a rumble also including Sir Punch-A-Lot and The Black Knight. However, The Black Knight pulled out due to technical issues, so it was basically a rematch between Star Hawk and Sir Punch-A-Lot. During the match, Star Hawk toyed with Sir Punch-A-Lot, not using its disk and letting Sir Punch-A-Lot fire its block into the rear. Star Hawk then ran off and charged Sir Punch-A-Lot from the front, managing to avoid getting hit by the punching block, before backing up and ramming straight into Sir Punch-A-Lot's right front with its rear. Star Hawk repeated the same move, this time getting a punch in retaliation. Star Hawk rammed Sir Punch-A-Lot with its rear again, managing to get to the side and push it briefly. After a bit of maneuvering, Star Hawk pushed Sir Punch-A-Lot with its rear again, taking another punch to the rear that inflicted no damage. Star Hawk then backed up and bashed into Sir Punch-A-Lot, again taking no damage from the punching block fired by Sir Punch-A-Lot. After some maneuvering, Star Hawk turned its side to let Sir Punch-A-Lot fire its punching weapon on the left side, all three blows simply pushing Star Hawk away, dealing no damage whatsoever. Star Hawk then turned on its disk, starting off by chipping away at the side and back. When they got close to a wall, Sir Punch-A-Lot rammed right into Star Hawk's disk, suffering only a scrape. After Star Hawk backed off, Sir Punch-A-Lot continued the charge, this time getting part of the top cover peeled upwards from the second blow. Star Hawk then took a bite on the right side before peeling up a significant part of the top cover on the front with two hits. The persistent Sir Punch-A-Lot would not let up, though, as it continued to find a spot to use its punching weapon, even as it took more hits to the front from Star Hawk's disk. Star Hawk then delivered another blow, peeling up more of the top armor on Sir Punch-A-Lot. From then on, Star Hawk continued to bite and grind its disk on Sir Punch-A-Lot until the time ran out. With Star Hawk being the clear damage inflictor, Star Hawk was given the win in this rumble.
