Big Ratfish, also known as Ratfish of Unusual Size, is a heavyweight robot which attempted to qualify for BattleBots World Championship V.

It is a two-wheel drive flipper armed with a stabilizing front forks and a large panel lifter. Big Ratfish is a scaled-up from the team captain's popular 1lb and 3lb beetleweight flippers, both named Ratfish. Team captain Mark Harrison has fought with Ratfish at various US live events including Orlando Maker Faire and Norwalk Havoc Robot League. Work on a heavyweight version of the robot began several years before its BattleBots application, with comments from the team dating back to 2018.

In its sportsman form, the robot made an appearance at Robot Ruckus in 2019 under the name Ratfish of Unusual Size. It matched up against SlamMow!, but lost by knockout.[1]

Despite applying for the 2020 BattleBots season, Big Ratfish was not accepted and did not appear in either the original or revised rosters that were revealed to Facebook Supporters. However, a name and theme for the show had not been decided, and Mark Harrison was unable to get Big Ratfish ready for full combat in time for filming.[2]

"The key with Ratfish is the large spatula flipper, which gives me a long throw and a lot of contact area to engage my opponent, and the speed and power of the flipper. The HW version will have the large spatula, but I don't think I'll have time or money to get the speed and power dialed in very well with this version. As far as converting from AW to HW, I pretty much just scaled everything up 1:1 for the HW, and then tried to add as much additional rigidity as possible in to the frame. My feeling is some things will work and some things won't work, but version 2 will be a force to reckon with!"

Ratfish is not known to have reapplied for the World Championship VI or any future competitions.
