To ensure that the BattleBots Wiki is a trustworthy resource, information from sources other than the main show and/or events must include suitable citations (or references) to prove their validity.
Examples where citations are required include:
- Information from official BattleBots documents, including rules, match records and schedules.
- Public information from social media accounts (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube), including those from BattleBots, associated broadcasters and competing teams.
- Information from secondary books and magazine articles.
- Information from secondary websites such as the Builders Database and BotRank.com.
- Correspondence between Wiki users and official pages for robots/teams, or personal accounts where the Wiki user has identified themselves.
- First-hand accounts from filming (subject to restrictions outlined in the Spoilers policy).
To mark secondary information with a citable source, use the <ref> and </ref> codes, along with a URL address for websites and/or a description of the source in question. Some references can be used more than once, by using a name code (<ref name="Example">) at the start of the reference, and a self-closing code (<ref name="Example"/>) each time the reference is added to the article. Square brackets ( [ ] ) can also be used with a URL address to add further details including the page title, upload dates, or publishing information in the case of digitally-scanned or reproduced material.
Unsourced information must be marked with the {{Cit}} (Citation? ) template until a proper citation can be found to verify this. If no reputable citation is found after an extended period of time, then the information may be deleted.
