- "Mini Battles on the Go! Step into the ring with the new remote-controlled BattleBots Sumo Bash! These two featherweight robot warriors mimic a Sumo-style battle where one robot tries to push the other out of the battle ring. With six interchangeable attack plows, you can customize your robot to outperform your opponent. Bring the battle with you anywhere, anytime! Included in this set are tiny-but-fierce robots and a portable ring so you can travel and compete with your friends!"
- — The playset's official description on the HEXBUG website.[1]
BattleBots Sumo Bash, also called SumoBash, is a playset produced by HEXBUG in 2021 as an addition to their range of BattleBots toys.
Included are eight arced pieces which connect together to form a ring, and two unique, remote control robots called Venom and Chisel, as well as their controllers. Each are smaller than the remote control line of BattleBots competitor toys, advertised as a more portable toy than the BattleBox releases.
The toy has since been rereleased without BattleBots branding, named Circuit Smash, though each robot's names remained the same.
Venom[]
- "Step into the snake pit and come face-to-face with the top of the food chain. Beware of Venom. With its rapid attack and potent strikes, no one is safe against this top predator! One strike and you're done for!"
- — Venom's official description on the Sumo Bash packaging.
Venom is black and red in color, featuring a pair of static pincers on the front by default. This front weapon can be swapped out for the forceps, skewer, spiked wedge, spear or spiked plow weapons to face Chisel.
Chisel[]
- "Chipping away armor and cracking through every obstacle, no robot is ever the same after a battle against Chisel. Wood, stone or metal, nothing can stop the cutting edge on this beast! Carve your way to victory!"
- — Chisel's official description on the Sumo Bash packaging.
Chisel is the blue and black robot similar in design to Venom. By default, it is equipped with the spiked wedge, but this can again be traded out for any of the aforementioned attachments for battle.
Unlike the traditional remote control toys, Venom and Chisel both feature turbo boost functionality, allowing them to dart forwards at an opponent but running the risk of driving out of the ring itself.
A fifteen-second commercial a uploaded to the HEXBUG YouTube channel in October 2021, airing on television soon after.[2] The toy is priced at $39.99 on the official HEXBUG website and is also available in Target stores.
In June 2022, the Sumo Bash set was made available to purchase in the United Kingdom.
