BatRay was a middleweight robot built by Team Ray which competed in Seasons 3.0 and 4.0 of Comedy Central BattleBots.
In its debut season, BatRay was a white, two-wheeled robot armed with a circular saw and armored in aluminium checker plate. BatRay was forced to forfeit, however, and this version of the robot would ultimately never fight.
BatRay was redesigned as a four-wheel drive, weaponless lightweight box for Season 4.0. Curiously, the wheels on its second iteration were set at 45 degree angles. Despite its unique locomotion, BatRay failed to break out of the preliminary rounds.
The team built a larger version of BatRay called MantaRay, which underwent the same design overhaul between seasons.

BatRay vs. Kraken (Forfeit) BatRay was scheduled to fight Kraken in its first ever battle, but it had technical issues was forced to forfeit. Kraken won by default and BatRay was eliminated from the tournament. |
Season 4.0[] |
BatRay vs. SupercaliBotulistic BatRay's first fight was against SupercaliBotulistic. From the start, BatRay was able to take advantage of a design issue with its opponent. As SupercaliBotulistic moved, its wedge lifted up off the ground. This allowed BatRay to drive under it and slammed its opponent into the wall. BatRay also had the pushing advantage, and was able to move SupercaliBotulistic around. It could not ram it though, because if it hit while the front wedge wasn't lifting up off the ground, it'd slide right onto it. Eventually, BatRay got under SupercaliBotulistic again and slammed it into the wall where it was jammed and immobile, but BatRay then freed SupercaliBotulistic. BatRay adopted a sit-and-spin strategy and got in one hit, but failed to cause any damage as the match went to the judges. They ruled in favor of BatRay on a 30-15 decision, handing Team Ray their first win with BatRay. |
BatRay vs. Pursuer BatRay then went up against Pursuer in the next preliminary round. Pursuer pushed BatRay around on its front spike, then got underneath and continued to control its opponent. It continually got under BatRay and drove it around the BattleBox, but never seemed to be able to get it slammed into the wall because the sloped design of Pursuer caused BatRay to constantly slide off. BatRay tried to sit and spin as a defense. Pursuer was kept at bay, but as soon as BatRay stopped spinning, Pursuer came over and got under it again. Time eventually ran out and the judges scored 26-19 in favor of Pursuer, eliminating BatRay from the competition. |
