Atomic Chile is a heavyweight robot designed by Team Atomic Chile which has applied for BattleBots World Championship VIII.
It is a twelve-sided polygon shaped, dual full-body drum spinner with interchangeable tool steel wedge configurations mounted 120 degrees radially around each drum. The weaponry is similar to that of Axe Backwards, but with twin drums spinning in opposite directions to theoretically cancel out gyroscopic forces. The robot's design was inspired by New Mexican chile roasters, which are a traditional method to roast chili peppers.
Atomic Chile is also capable of operating as a meltybrain sit-and-spin design, using its drive wheels to spin on the spot while driving in a specific direction. This would allow both drums to strike upwards on its opponents despite them spinning in opposite directions. This meltybrain strategy would utilize AI technology and a camera housed between its drums to allow Atomic Chile to learn its environment. Its two large wheels will be tipped with rubber for extra traction and also include different configurations of armor based on the opponent.
The team first started their application in early 2023 by fully fleshing out their design and building small devices to show proof of concept of their AI-related systems. The team plan on building Atomic Chile at Fuse Makerspace in Albuquerque, New Mexico where several team members are instructors.[1]
- "Team Atomic Chile have spoken with the producers of BattleBots and have been assured that they are on the short list for acceptance into the main bot lineup for the next season of the TV show... The producers have been adamant that we are on the list for new bots next year, but it is all budget dependent from thier [sic] contract."

The team were allegedly informed that they are "on the short list of acceptance" for World Championship VIII.[2] The team are largely dependent on the financial backing of crowdfunding, with the build stage on hold until future televised seasons are green-lit and enough money has been raised. In the meantime, the team are exploring options of creating a less expensive prototype version to bring to BattleBots Proving Ground to test their design and show it off to BattleBots producers.[2]
