Alabama Slammer was a middleweight robot built by Rick Nickel of Team Redneck Robots which competed in three seasons of Comedy Central BattleBots.
It was armed with a pneumatic lifting arm with a four-pronged pitchfork fitted to the end, which could be used to overturn opponents and control them when raised. Alabama Slammer also featured a rear-mounted spike exclusively for its debut season. It performed well in the BattleBots middleweight division as it reached the Round of 16 in Season 4.0 and won two Consolation Rumbles in Season 3.0 and Season 5.0.
As its name implies, the team and robot were from Huntsville, Alabama.
Outside BattleBots[]
Alabama Slammer also competed at the SECR tournament in January 2002, followed by the Southern Assault tournament that same year.

Alabama Slammer vs. Bot Mulcher Alabama Slammer's first ever match in BattleBots was against Bot Mulcher. When the match began, Alabama Slammer charged across the box and swerved left to face its opponent. When both bots swung right to face each other, Alabama Slammer exploited an opening and got under Bot Mulcher from the left side, lifting it upside down against the spikestrip for the count. Alabama Slammer won the fight by KO in 31 seconds and advanced to the next preliminary round. |
Alabama Slammer vs. EnumScratch In the next round, Alabama Slammer met EnumScratch. As the match began, Rick Nickel's bot performed a box rush as EnumScratch began to spin up. Alabama Slammer fired its lifter upon contact with EnumScratch's spinner, popping it out of its housing and sending it spinning across the floor. After charging into EnumScratch again, Alabama Slammer's opponent was seemingly incapacitated against the spikestrip. Alabama Slammer came in for a shot with its rear spike and penetrated EnumScratch's rear end. However, Alabama Slammer was unable to free itself, and the match was paused to separate the two. One of the crewbots tried to separate the bots with a crowbar to no avail, and the match was instead taken to the judges. Alabama Slammer won the fight on a 37-8 judges' decision, advancing it to the final preliminary round. |
Alabama Slammer vs. Evil Con Carne In the last untelevised round, Alabama Slammer faced Evil Con Carne. Early on, Alabama Slammer flipped Evil Con Carne as it swung its hammer. Evil Con Carne spent much of the remainder of the time driving on three of its six wheels desperate to right itself, but it eventually lost its hammer head. Evil Con Carne continued to drive around the BattleBox, but could not turn and struggled to show control as a result. Alabama Slammer righted Evil Con Carne with under a minute to go, threatening to lift it again as time eventually ran out. Alabama Slammer won the fight on a 37-8 judges' decision and advanced to the TV rounds for the first time. |
Alabama Slammer vs. Sunshine Lollibot In the Round of 32, Alabama Slammer faced Sunshine Lollibot, who spun its sawblade as Alabama Slammer drove out of its starting square. Sunshine Lollibot then threw Alabama Slammer over its primary weapon. Alabama Slammer suffered more attacks to its front as it was unable to self-right, and was counted out. Sunshine Lollibot won the fight by KO after just 47 seconds and Alabama Slammer was eliminated from the tournament. |
Middleweight Consolation Rumble Alabama Slammer returned for the Middleweight Consolation Rumble at the end of the tournament. After pushing Buddy Lee Stay In Your Seat at one point, the time ran out and Alabama Slammer won the consolation rumble with Instigator. This win put both robots to the Middleweight Royal Rumble. |
Middleweight Royal Rumble In the early moments of the Middleweight Royal Rumble, Alabama Slammer got itself clamped by Complete Control and tried to escape by using its flipping arm. Complete Control let Alabama Slammer go and Alabama Slammer was moving around the BattleBox. Alabama Slammer slammed into T-Minus with its rear spike and T-Minus tried to flip it, but it missed. After this, Alabama Slammer backed itself into the wedge of Double Agent and it was pushed against the spikestrip. Alabama Slammer was now moving very slowly and it bumped itself into SABotage and T-Minus. In the closing seconds, Alabama Slammer managed to flip T-Minus onto its back. In spite of this late attack, T-Minus was declared the winner of the Middleweight Royal Rumble. |
Season 4.0[] |
Alabama Slammer vs. Sunshine Lollibot Due to previously competing in Season 3.0, Alabama Slammer was allowed to skip the preliminary rounds of Season 4.0, where it eventually fought Sunshine Lollibot in a rematch. After Alabama Slammer drove itself under the pulverizer, Alabama Slammer got its flipping arm caught on Sunshine Lollibot's saw blade and dragged it towards the killsaws. Both robots were separated from the killsaws and Alabama Slammer almost flipped Sunshine Lollibot onto its back. Alabama Slammer got its flipping arm caught under Sunshine Lollibot and pushed it against the spikestrip. Alabama Slammer ultimately won the fight on a 33-12 judges' decision and advanced to the Round of 16 for the first time. |
Alabama Slammer vs. Twin Paradox Next up for Alabama Slammer was Twin Paradox. As Alabama Slammer drove at its opponent, Rick Nickel's bot missed with its initial flip. Twin Paradox hit Alabama Slammer in return with its blade and it suddenly stopped moving. Alabama Slammer was counted out and Twin Paradox won the fight by a comfortable knockout, meaning Alabama Slammer was eliminated from the tournament. As it happened, Alabama Slammer's drive motors had been strained from carrying Sunshine Lollibot around in its Round of 32 win, and they had to be replaced. During the repairs, the robot's IFI radio was not strapped down and this proved to be a costly mistake and the cause of its sudden immobilization. |
Middleweight Royal Rumble Alabama Slammer also participated the Middleweight Royal Rumble at the end of the tournament. In the beginning, Alabama Slammer was pushed against the spikestrip by Turtle Road Kill. Alabama Slammer bumped into Bad Attitude and charged straight at a flipped T-Minus. T-Minus self-righted immediately and Alabama Slammer almost flipped it onto its back. Alabama Slammer was being pushed around the BattleBox by Summoner for a brief moment, then Alabama Slammer ran away. Alabama Slammer charged straight at T-Wrex and got its pitchfork caught on Psychotron's wedge. After this, Alabama Slammer tried to flip the front of Heavy Metal Noise, but it missed. Alabama Slammer continued moving around the BattleBox and pushed Psychotron onto Huggy Bear's "hug zone", who was stuck on a killsaw hole. Alabama Slammer tried to free Huggy Bear with its flipping arm, but it wasn't successful and charged straight at Heavy Metal Noise, which flipped it onto its back. Alabama Slammer tried to flip Huggy Bear out of the killsaw hole again, but it missed. Alabama Slammer drove itself on top of an immobile Turtle Road Kill and it got stuck there for a few seconds. Psychotron knocked Alabama Slammer off of Turtle Road Kill and Alabama Slammer ran away. Alabama Slammer was being pushed by Summoner again and it was pushed against the spikestrip twice. Alabama Slammer was moving around the BattleBox again and charged straight at T-Wrex, but it was pushed against the spikestrip again by Summoner. Summoner continued pushing Alabama Slammer until it got stuck on the entrance ramp. In the end, Bad Attitude was declared the winner of the rumble. |
Season 5.0[] |
Alabama Slammer vs. T-Wrex Due to previously competing in Season 4.0, Alabama Slammer was allowed to skip the preliminary rounds of Season 5.0, where it eventually fought T-Wrex. When the match began, Alabama Slammer met its opponent at the center of the box and took a swing to the front. Alabama Slammer slipped under another swing and turned to face T-Wrex again. Alabama Slammer charged in but turned left at the last second as T-Wrex delivered an impacting blow to the right side. Alabama Slammer went back to the center of the arena and rammed into T-Wrex's front end, taking another swing in return. Alabama Slammer retreated and reversed into T-Wrex's pick end with its flipping arm stuck up, causing the thwacking arm to latch under the flipping mechanism. Both bots spun around until Alabama Slammer lowered the flipping arm and separated, but not before trying and failing to pop T-Wrex while it was on top. Alabama Slammer faced T-Wrex and started pushing by the thwacking arm, causing it to hook onto the pitchfork. Seizing an opportunity, Alabama Slammer popped T-Wrex upwards with its flipping arm. T-Wrex responded back with a bump and a thwack to the right side. As both bots moved to the center of the arena, Alabama Slammer took a hard blow to the front from T-Wrex's thwacking pick and promptly backed away as it was getting shoved from the right side. Alabama Slammer made another approach and turned to the right as T-Wrex landed a blow to the left front corner, retaliating by scooping up T-Wrex and lifting the entire bot in the air. After T-Wrex slid back down behind, Alabama Slammer rammed its rear into T-Wrex's front, prompting the latter to swing and sweep its pick under from the left side. After backing into the killsaws, Alabama Slammer maneuvered into position, backed up a good distance, and charged straight at its opponent. However, Alabama Slammer fired its flipper too early and took a huge blow from T-Wrex's pick that popped its front end up in the air. After backing up again, Alabama Slammer approached T-Wrex and was met with a smack from the thwacking pick, immediately firing its flipper and missing. After backing up once more, Alabama Slammer launched a full speed rush at T-Wrex, only to get countered by a hard strike to the right side, causing Alabama Slammer to spin 180 degrees as it rolled to the blue square. After retracting its flipper, Alabama Slammer charged straight at T-Wrex once more, this time receiving a heavy thwack that popped it in the air and forcefully turned it 90 degrees. Alabama Slammer drove forward and tried to ram T-Wrex with its rear end, where it got popped upwards by the opponent's thwacking pick. After backing away, Alabama Slammer lined up and rushed forward at T-Wrex, where it got struck by the thwacking tail in a way that caused it to hop up and slide on top of the roof of its opponent. As it rode past its opponent while retracting its flipper, Alabama Slammer was met with yet another strike from T-Wrex that briefly propped it on top of the thwacking pick. Alabama Slammer backed up and charged at T-Wrex again, this time getting countered with a shot to the right side. Alabama Slammer backed near the right square and clashed heads with T-Wrex, where it capitalized by firing its flipper and briefly lifting its opponent into the air. After taking a glancing blow while backing away, Alabama Slammer charged in, rode over the killsaws, and took another blow to the right side from T-Wrex. Alabama Slammer backed up again and tried another approach, only to get tossed by the killsaws as T-Wrex went for another swing. As T-Wrex tried to ram into its rear end, Alabama Slammer bumped its rear end from the left side and caused T-Wrex to take a ride on the killsaws. Alabama Slammer backed up, maneuvered for position, and tried to seize the moment when they clashed heads by firing its flipper, but missed. After backing away, Alabama Slammer made another approach, taking a light hit to the right side and guiding its opponent over the killsaws. Alabama Slammer backed away as it took a ram from T-Wrex and moved forward towards the screws. At this time, Alabama Slammer looked like it was starting to slow down. Alabama Slammer tried to push against T-Wrex's spiked side with its rear end, but it instead turned right to avoid the screws and reversed into another set of screws, narrowly avoiding a pulverizer shot. At the same time, T-Wrex accidentally drove its thwacking tail up the screws. After driving away to the blue square, Alabama Slammer swooped back in and freed T-Wrex from the screws. With its opponent on top, Alabama Slammer backed into the path of the pulverizer, where a blow was landed on T-Wrex. After Alabama Slammer backed into the screws again, the match made the distance. T-Wrex won the fight on a very close 23-22 judges' decision and Alabama Slammer was eliminated from the tournament. |
Middleweight Consolation Rumble Alabama Slammer again took part in the Middleweight Consolation Rumble at the end of the tournament. Alabama Slammer and Complete Control won the rumble overall and both were due to enter the Middleweight Royal Rumble. However, due to an incident occurring during the Heavyweight Consolation Rumble, the Royal Rumble was canceled. |
