Accelerator was middleweight built by the self-titled Team Accelerator, which competed at the first BattleBots IQ competition in 2002.
Representing Plymouth North High School, Acelerator was a box-shaped, four-wheel drive robot armored in 6-4 titanium with skirts on all four sides. Accelerator was armed with a small lifting arm powered by compressed air from a paintball gun, which utilized solenoids to activate with 1000lbs of lifting power. Although it suffered no success in the main competition, losing both of its fights to Joan of Arc and Lurker, Accelerator shared the Outstanding Sportsmanship Award along with HammerRoyd, Happy Scrappy Hero Pup, Metal Fury, and eventual champion Wee Willy Wedgy.
Team members from Accelerator were also responsible for the BattleBots competitors Reactore, Gungnire and Default, with the latter also competing in the 2002 BattleBots IQ competition under Team Default.
