A-10 Thunderbolt, also known as Steven Seagal, was a middleweight robot which competed in BattleBots IQ 2002 and Season 5.0 of Comedy Central BattleBots.
It was an invertible, reverse wedge-shaped robot armed with two spinning discs, similar to Dreadnought. However, in its only fight against Chopper during Season 5.0's preliminary rounds, A-10 Thunderbolt was severely damaged and was eliminated before the televised rounds.
A-10 Thunderbolt was originally named Steven Seagal and entered into the first BattleBots IQ tournament, but was re-named following the competition. There, it was joined by (and lost to) its much more successful teammate WhirlWind, who also competed in Season 5.0.
Team captain Dan Haeg would also drive Firestorm in Season 5.0 under loan from its own team, who were busy with Helichopter.
Early renders of the robot saw it sporting an unused paint scheme and front wedge. It is unknown why these were scrapped or what happened to the robot after BattleBots.

A-10 Thunderbolt vs. Chopper Returning for Season 5 as A-10 Thunderbolt, Dan Haeg's machine went against the undercutter of Chopper. For this battle, A-10 Thunderbolt had a sacrificial piece of steel bolted to the front under the weapons to protect from Chopper's undercutting blade. On the first collision between the two robots, all of the screws holding on A-10 Thunderbolt's bottom armor sheared and the plate dropped off. This hit also knocked out Chopper's spinning weapon. The two robots continued to fight until A-10 Thunderbolt's batteries dropped out of the robot and unplugged themselves, immobilizing it and eliminating it from the tournament. |
