8 Ball was a heavyweight robot built by Derby City Robotics which competed in Season 5.0 of Comedy Central BattleBots.
It was a black, two-wheel drive, dome-shaped robot, which was armed with a front lifting arm, several circular saw blades surrounding it and a self-righting arm, which was built into the robot's shell. The shell was cut out of the end of ³⁄₁₆" ASME SA414 tank.[1] It did not perform well as a rookie, losing its first and only match against JC Slammer.
Outside BattleBots[]
After its appearance on BattleBots 8 Ball competed at Robocide: Showdown in O-Town in January of 2003. It was able to perform significantly better with wins over Interceptor and Spinister while also suffering losses to HexaDecimator and Maximum Paralysis.
The team also started building a middleweight robot named The Rack to continue the team's billiards theme.[2] No details of this build are known at this time.
