2x4 was a lightweight robot built by Kurt Krueger of Team 2x4 for the BattleBots NPC Charity Open in 2004. However, according to records, it did not compete.[1] Team 2x4 wanted to bring 2x4 to Season 5.0 as well although it did not compete at this tournament either.[2]

It was a wide, twin wedge-shaped robot with four stabilizing wedges - two at the front, and two at the rear. 2x4 was armed with a a relatively large overhead horizontal spinning bar for weaponry. At each end of the bar was a spiked hammer head.

Team captain Kurt Krueger later returned to BattleBots in 2023 leading a brand new build, Traves T., which was set to fight Maximum Paralysis on the weekend of July 1-2, 2023 at BattleBots: Destruct-A-Thon. Though Traves T. had to withdraw, it was rescheduled to fight Snakebyte a month later. Traves T. won both of its fights, one of which took place against the ShowBot version of OverKill.

Outside BattleBots[]

2x4 enjoyed mild success on the US live circuit across a three-year timeframe, debuting in the July 2003 NC Robot StreetFight event. Following its ill-fated attempt to compete in the 2004 NPC Charity Open, 2x4 fought at that year's RFL Nationals as well as a handful of other events until its retirement following the October 2005 Robotic Revolution competition.[3]

In August 2023, Krueger revealed via Reddit that 2x4 no longer existed. Having reworked the robot to make its weapon more powerful, 2x4 destabilized and was damaged during testing.

"I made a major revision near the end by putting the motor above the blade. I also quadrupled the hp. The power was turned up to 11. It went unstable in testing and jumped 10 ft in the air in the blink of an eye. It was a total disaster."
